Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Primary School located at Takiapora Zone Langate in North Kashmir has two buildings on which lakhs of rupees have been spent. “There are only two students enrolled in this school while a single teacher has been deputed by Zonal Education Officer to teach these two kids. The school remains closed in absence of the deputed teacher. Today both these little kids waited for a long time outside the school and left after when the teacher didn’t turn up,” said a local Muhammad Ashraf.
The villagers told news agency CNS that they don’t prefer enrollment of their kids in the school due to callous attitude of the Education Department.
“These two building were constructed to drain the State Exchequer. Lakhs were spent on them while no effort was made to depute teachers here. Some of the money went into the coffers of those at the helm of affairs. It remains closed at least thrice a week. Due to lack of accountability, no official takes cognizance of the state of affairs that are messy,” said another villager.
Ironically, ZEO Langate, when contacted said that it is not an issue at all. “These kids can study at home in absence of teacher in the school,” he said.
