A renowned Kashmiri leader , Sardar Khalid Ibrahim Khan met with brain hemorrhage at Islamabad and succumbed to this fatal disease on 04 November , 2018 . He was laid to rest at his native town – Rawalakot (Azad Kahmir ) on 05 November, 2018 . The late Khalid Ibrahim was son of Sardar Ibrahim Khan (late) who was Known as Ghazi –e- Millat ) for his exemplary services to Kashmiri nation . He was the founder and first President of Government of Azad Jammu & Kashmir ( 24 October 1947) and thereafter, was elected twice as president of the State . It is worth mentioning here that “Resolution of Accession to Pakistan” was passed on 19 July 1947 (even before the birth of Pakistan) at his residence in Srinagar (held Kashmir) . Therefore, this family can rightly be termed as pioneers of Pakistan.
Sardar Khalid Ibrahim (late) followed the footsteps of his great father and remained staunch lover of Pakistan throughout his life. Although he has died but he went to grave; wrapped in Flag of Pakistan. His love with Pakistan was really unprecedented of which, a relevant incident is quote worthy. On the death of Sardar Ibrahim Khan ( his father) , there was no representation of federal government on the burial ceremony of great Kashmiri leader upon which , the Kashmir community especially Sardar Muhammad Abdul Qayyum khan ( late) and his son Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan very rightly and vehemently protested against this attitude of federal Government ( Mir Zaffarullah Khan Jamali was prime Minister of that time ) .But Sardar Khalid Ibrahim ( the son of the deceased ) who was in the state of sorrow & grief , replied : “ I don’t mind for representation of federal government on the burial of my father , I always love the people of Pakistan –may not be the government and this lapse on the part of government will not affect my love with the people of Pakistan” .
Besides nationwide appreciations to the Pakistan lovers, Pakistan army also pays respect to such beautiful patriots . On the occasion of death of Mujahid –e Awwal Sardar Muhammad Abdul Qayyum Khan ,( a very high profile and a prominent Kashmiri leader ) , Pakistan army paid him rich tributes for his services and a contingent of army placed him in grave with full military honour . On his death, funeral prayer was also held at Islamabad Parade Ground which was attended by General Qamar Javed Bajwa ( then corps commander ) . Sardar Qayyum was Brigade commander ( Qayyum Brigade) during 1947/48 Jehad in Kashmir . In addition to that, he had so love for Pakistan that once the East Pakistan was lost in 1971, the Indian Prime Minister of that time Mrs. Indra Gandhi said: “we have sunk the “Two Nation Theory” in the bay of Bengal” .
On this, Sardar Muhammad Abdul Qayyum Khan( then president of Azad Kashmir ) replied with a ‘counter slogan’ : “ Kashmir Bane Ga Pakistan” (Kashmir will accede to Pakistan) . On the death of Abdul Sattar Edhi ( a renowned social worker ) , Gen Rahel Sharif ( then COAS) was present on his funeral prayer and reportedly , had also shouldered the dead body of Abdul Sattar Edhi to the grave site ( It was in recognition for his sincere services for Pakistan) . With the incidents stated above, it is evident that Pakistan army loves those, who love Pakistan, which I have also experienced in military life. Similarly, now the Pak army high command ( Corps commander and the GOC) also arrived at the residence of Sardar Khalid Ibrahim (late) to condole with the bereaved family which has been well received in Azad Kashmir and across the border .
Sardar Khalid Ibrahim was man of irreproachable character and never compromised on principles to the extent that on one occasion; he lost his legislative Assembly seat on some issue. Although , the late Khalid Ibrahim has never been a state flag holder in his life , but people had so much of love for him that he was elected as member legislative Assembly of Azad Kashmir for 5 times . The mammoth gathering on the burial ceremony of Sardar Khalid Ibrahim proved that character wins the hearts and minds of the people; not the flags or the flag holders.
With the brief profile of Sardar Khalid Ibrahim, it amply reflects that he was not only a politician but was also the guardian of the ideological frontiers of Pakistan and thus, can rightly be honored as “solider of Pakistan” . May Allah rest his soul in eternal peace and grant him plush place in heaven.
