PESHAWAR: To improve bilateral relations between the two countries a Cricketing Series between Pakistan Army Cricket Team and Sri Lankan Army Cricket Team got under way at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Thursday.
Zalmi Foundation and Haier have co-sponsored this one of a kind series, says spokesman of the Zalmi here. Pakistan and Sri Lanka have been great friends for the past decades and both countries are always looking to further strengthen this relationship.
The match was won by the Sri Lankan Army XI. They batted first and scored 209 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 45 overs. Jennite Chatrunga and Seukge Prasanna both scored 47 runs. From Pakistan Army XI, Tahir Khan took 3 wickets and Ameer Khan took 2 wickets.
In reply, Pakistan Army XI could only score 136 runs and was bowled out. Ameer Khan scored 46 runs and Haseeb Ul Rehman scored 32 runs. Prasanna was awarded the man of the match award. After the match, Brigadier Ghulam Jillani presented awards to the players.
The second match of the series will be played in Miranshah on October 12, which is also bringing great excitement for the people of that region. The third and final match will be played in the hearts of Lahore on October 17.
According to the ISPR, the aim of the series is to promote friendly bilateral relations between the two countries. Through this series, the friendship would Sri Lanka will strengthen even more. Chairman, Peshawar Zalmi and Zalmi Foundation, Javed Afridi said that “this series is a step in the positive direction for both countries. We feel honored to become part of this wonderful series and hope to provide support for more endeavors such as this one. Our aim is always to promote the positive image of Pakistan on a global stage and we strive relentlessly to achieve this goal.”
He further added that the two cricket loving nations can promote the message of peace through this beautiful sport, as we have seen globally that, sports are always playing an important role in bringing people, communities, and countries together. The good relations between the two countries have been
there for quite a while now. The people and the army of both countries respect each other and aim to spread the message of peace and love.
