Travelogue is an established and popular genre of literature. It is metaphorically held in English that life is a travel. Travel exposes the secrets of nature. To wonder is inherent in human nature as all humans have been endowed with the Instinct of curiosity and Exploration. Our friend of the good old days and college fellow the famed Professor of Urdu Ayez Kyani undertook travel across the mountains of Kashmir to the selected venues and cities of the Punjab, Baluchistan, and Sindh. His travel to The Alma mater, Bahauddin Zakariya University of Multan is pretty significant as he is carried away by the emotions when he enters this highest seat of learning where he consumed the handsome time of his life. He visits various cites of this oldest city of the Punjab and records many valuable pieces of information by digging into their history. From this land of mystics and spiritualism, he went towards the desolate and barren mountains of Baluchistan. He enjoyed the frosty weather chilling the bones to the core chiefly in Quetta. From there, he headed to the coast of Sind. He manages to see the top visiting spots of this province like Mazare-e; Quaid, Clifton Beach, Sea view beach, and other breathtaking places.
He relishes the company and hospitality of scores of his buddies, students and kith and kin everywhere. He is enthralled by the flourishes of nature everywhere besides savoring pulsating life of the cities of the Punjab, Baluchistan, and Sind. He is mesmerized by the hustle and bustle of the cities and towns especially, the epic city of Karachi enchanted him exponentially. He portrays the life of Cosmo Politian city in a way that touches the heart and lures readers to visit these places. Mr. Ayez has successfully managed to bring alive everyday life so that a grave reader somehow reaches the true essence of these places. Importantly, this travel was taken by our colleague professor Ayez Kyani during the winter vacation as we know, a teacher in the winter station can afford this liberty of leisure whatsoever either his desired place lies in a frosty or hot atmosphere. it aims as per his statement in foreward to refuel and energize himself following the monotonous routine during the term in the college as well as to quench the wonder lust.
It is also triggered by the haunts of nostalgic reminiscences which sit in the subconscious mind of all and sundry when they cross the lime part of their age. Certainly, it is a universal impulse. Being a conscientious and awakened person, the professor gauges and evaluates the long-standing problems of lands whether it is horrid urbanization or hygienic issues of the land, and recommends the solutions to these tardy issues as per his sagacity and standing. Mr. kyani is a conscious, passionate, and devoted person and always hot on the state of affairs prevalent in the country.
Mr.Kyani has a nice taste in exploring history, culture, and arts. He scribes this short history of every place that he visits and paints their images in this volume immaculately. Following visiting these places, he eventually reached his beautiful hometown back after two months. Regaining, a new spirit, a mood of exuberance and composure, he crafted the book under review to vent his experiences and impressions he felt and immersed profoundly for feasting the eyes and brains of his readers.
The author has expressed subtle sentiments in an honest, simple, and non-melodramatic manner. He used simple, short, and plain sentences which are easy to convey his viewpoints. Off and on, we come across pithy flowery sentences which add nice color to these travel tales. Overall the account of the travelogue adds handy information, especially about old historical buildings and other facilities of the bygone days in a precise and unpretentious manner.
It sounds self evident that the author crafted these tales of travel consciously. It is deminstrated by his minute description of historic places across the country. Mr. Kyani is well-read and has the prowess of observation and can paint the surrounding with his pen keenely. It goes without saying that the author’s skill of report writing of events is meticulous -chiefly those related to the colleges- finding expression in media dining for the eyes.Similarly, his palpable designs are an open secret. From his student life, he always seems didactic and hell-bent on inculcating in others (ethos) what he finds convenient. This aspect of life exalts him to a reformative mindset and in a way is aligned with his being a true teacher. The learned author is worthy of our cheers for endeavoring and crafting a nice addition. May he be more prosperous with the pen! Three cheers on our end!
